God is ABLE!
March 1, 2017
Saying that God is able is a huge statement of faith. “And God is able” (2 Corinthians 9:8). The Apostle Paul uses the word “dynatos” here to explain that God is ABLE. This Greek word means “ability, might, power or strength” to accomplish something. God is able to save; to heal; to baptize; to deliver; to guide; and to provide. The God that we serve is ABLE to do anything and everything that He needs to do because He is “dynatos.”
“Wherefore He is able to save them to the uttermost who come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25). He is ABLE to save. I remember as a freshman in college before I was saved I would pass by a fifteen-foot tall corrugated metal sign next to the highway that read, “God Saves.” It freaked me out because the other side read: Prepare to meet your maker. It seemed like every time I drove by it that it was closer to the road. I now realize that I was under conviction. I was a sinner and God’s “dynatos” was working on my behalf to set me free from my sin. I was bound by darkness, but God was ABLE to reach into my situation and set me free. The sign was one of many things the Holy Spirit did in my life to rescue me from Satan’s grip. He is ABLE to SAVE!
“If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O King.” Look at the three Hebrew children in Daniel 3:17, they said it so eloquently—God is ABLE to DELIVER. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey as you read this the fact is that God is a Deliverer. The old hymn says: He brought me out of the miry clay, He set my feet on the Rock to stay; He puts a song in my soul today, A song of praise, hallelujah! The God that we serve is a DELIVERER.
We can sing both joyously and victoriously the great hymn written by William A. Ogden, “He is Able to Deliver Thee”. “Tis the grandest theme through the ages rung; ’Tis the grandest theme for a mortal tongue; ’Tis the grandest theme that the world e’er sung: Our God is able to deliver thee!” Again, HE is a DELIVERER!
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). He is ABLE to HEAL. God STILL heals. Let me encourage you to claim ALL of God’s “dynatos” for your life and needs. I remember the signs: Jesus Saves – Jesus Heals. He does! He is our Healer.
I close with the verse in Philippians 4:13, where Paul says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” We are ABLE through our God who is ABLE. I can’t wait until we gather at District Council 17 because God is ABLE. That’s our theme and that’s our belief. See you in April. GOD IS ABLE!
